Tottenham Hotspur prepare new £21m offer to sign 20-goal striker

Tottenham Hotspur are prepared to make a new offer worth £21million for West Bromwich Albion star Saido Berahino, according to reports from the Daily Mail.

The 22-year-old has been heavily linked with a move away from the Hawthornes in recent weeks, with Spurs already having an £18million offer turned down by the Baggies.

And although West Brom have set an asking price of £25million, the Lilywhites are confident that their new proposal will secure Berahino’s services before the end of the transfer window.

Tottenham boss Mauricio Pochettino is keen on linking up star striker Harry Kane and Berahino in a two-pronged attack, and has sold Roberto Soldado to Villarreal to make room for the England U-21 star.

Berahino was left out of the West Brom side which succumbed to a 3-2 loss against Chelsea on Sunday, signifying that the striker is edging close to an exit.

After the game, West Brom manager Tony Pulis, who is livid with the situation, said: “Why are we talking about Saido? Because of the transfer window. It’s absolutely ridiculous.

“For it to be going through the start of the season is ridiculous. We should be talking about this game. This wouldn’t be an issue, a problem.

“Saido is a great lad. It happens where it can be disruptive, and it has been disruptive. I had a good chat with him yesterday and he’s fine, no problems, but it’s the transfer window.

“Why can’t we have a system where it finishes before the start of the season.”

The Baggies will hope to bounce back from their loss when they travel to the Britannia to face Stoke City next weekend.

Last season, Berahino made 45 appearances in all competitions, scoring 20 goals.
